Ranks have entered the central Syrian city according to activists, in a sign that President Bashar al-Assad is willing to put down ongoing protests with force despite the impending arrival of a UN humanitarian mission that acts as Properties shield for the Syrian citizens.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the troops that were wounded numbered to eight people on Saturday in Homs, where a general strike on the real estate was under way in protest against the crackdown and endosperm Properties.

“We began to hear the sound of gunfire from early morning,” an activist in Homs Properties who gave his name as Abdul Al-Rahman told Al Jazeera.

“I also heard a big explosion from the Bab Amr district and several real estate right here in Homs.. Several armoured vehicles with hundreds of soldiers, security men and shabiha [regime thugs] entered Homs’ Sunni districts of Khaldiyeh, Aanshat and Bab Sbaa” a local said.

Videos posted online by the Shaam News Network appeared to show armoured personnel carriers driving through the streets of the city at dawn, with automatic gunfire audible in the background.

SOHR also said two people were killed in Rastan, a town between Homs and Hama, as security forces opened fire to disperse a demonstration.

Meanwhile, opponents of Bashar al-Assad met in Turkey to launch a “national council”.
